Long story short, Mama Love Chocolate Protein is no longer for sale.

After making little headway in retail stores, and coming up against a tough economic environment online, we made the decision to stop manufacturing and selling Mama Love Chocolate Protein. We simply didn’t have the infrastructure needed to produce at scale or the financial backing necessary for the business to thrive. And rather than having a going-out-of-business flash sale, we donated our remaining inventory to the North Texas Food Bank, a non-profit, hunger-relief organization that sources and distributes food to children, seniors, and families through a network of partner agencies across 13 counties in Texas.

We are so proud of our origin story and of the lessons learned from being in the natural foods industry, and we are extremely grateful to the loyal, repeat customers who made Mama Love Chocolate Protein a part of their daily routines.

Mama Love Chocolate Protein: The Origin Story

Mama Love Chocolate Protein was a labor of love and a promise to moms. After the birth of her first kid, Mama Love founder Kim Daly Farrell struggled with breastfeeding. She quickly discovered eating more protein would help, and she reached for protein powder to make life easier.

Kim looked at nearly every protein powder on the shelves—the chalky, the stinky, the bitter, the chemical-ridden. Most of them weren’t safe for nursing moms, and the ones that were, didn’t relieve post-workout muscle soreness or contain the best foods to boost breast milk supply. So she made her own blend with wholesome ingredients and all-natural mix-ins from the supplements aisle.

Shortly after baby number two arrived, Kim reached for that trusty blender again to make plant-based protein smoothies to support her breastfeeding and fitness goals. That’s when she decided to take her homemade recipe to the next level, and support other moms looking for safe, effective sports nutrition products.

Kim founded Mama Love LLC, partnered with a contract manufacturer to make Mama Love Chocolate Protein in a state-of-the-art facility, and began selling it online, at in-person health events and running expos, and through boutique fitness studios.

What Made Mama Love Chocolate Protein Special?

Mama Love Chocolate Protein was a healthy way to add plant-based protein, antioxidants, and probiotics to a smoothie or post-workout recovery shake. It was made with superfoods and  safe, all-natural ingredients proven to build muscle, improve energy, and reduce inflammation. And it was free from risky chemicals, preservatives, fillers and additives.

Moms were our target customers, but even natural bodybuilders (with nary a milk-making goal!) found Mama Love Chocolate Protein to be more effective than other protein powders.

Each of the ingredients in Mama Love Chocolate Protein was wholesome and packed a specific, performance-enhancing punch. We’re still big fans of these ingredients, and you can learn more about them on our website.

The Spirit of Mama Love Chocolate Protein Lives On!

We still believe that breastfeeding doesn’t have to limit your ability to workout or reach your fitness goals. Truth is, working out can actually support your breast milk production!

“Exercising won’t damage your milk supply,” says Shivani Patel, M.D., a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. “In fact, it might actually give you a boost, because it’s a stress-reliever.”

Exercising is proven to boost your mood and improve your patience, making you a better mom overall. And while some lactating moms see a dip in supply after working out, it’s not usually caused by that epic spin class, power lifting session, or long run. (Spoiler alert: Change your bra and eat more protein!)

Refueling with plant-based protein shakes can help you hit your daily protein target and reach your fitness goals, without compromising your health, values, or healthy milk supply.  Mama Love Chocolate Protein was designed to do exactly that.
